books n such

I've had this odd obsession with recording every book I read; I even have a web page devoted to it.

The latest was The Continental Op by Dashiel Hammett. It's a collection of short stories about a private investigator who is oddly both completely ethical towards his employer (never taking bribes) and pretty immoral about how he goes about his business. Some of them have that annoying "just so" property at the end.

As a kid I was obsessed with Encyclopedia Brown, even though I figured out pretty quick just how formulaic they all were. I rarely figured them out on my own, but their clean endings made me feel more comfortable somehow. I'm sure if I tried to read them again today, I'd find the plot holes and such.
